Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the premier tooth replacement option. They’re an ideal solution for patients missing one or several teeth and are seeking a permanent restoration.

Missing teeth can lead to deterioration of the gums and a reduction in bone density. To qualify for dental implants, patients must have sufficient jawbone density and healthy gums. Our Lubbock dentist will examine your oral health during your initial consultation to determine if you’re a candidate for dental implants.

If you don’t have the required bone density for implants, don’t worry! Our practice offers supplemental procedures including bone and gum grafting to help improve your dental implant candidacy.

The Dental Implant Process

The dental implant process is completed in just a few simple steps over a few appointments at our dental office in Lubbock, TX.

The first step is scheduling your initial consultation with one of our professional dentists. During this visit, they’ll examine your oral health to determine if you’re an ideal candidate for implants, and discuss your smile goals.

The next step is placing the implant. Once our team determines you have enough jaw and gum tissue to hold an implant, we can begin the surgical procedure. We’ll administer a local anesthetic to ensure that your experience is comfortable and pain-free. If you deal with heightened dental anxiety, we offer sedation dentistry options as well.

The implant is placed into your jaw, where it’ll begin to fuse to the bone through a process called osseointegration. While fusing, the titanium implant will also heal the bone around it. This recovery period varies from patient to patient but can take anywhere from three to six months to heal. We’ll see you for follow-up appointments during this time to track your implant’s progress.

Once the implant is fully fused to your bone, you’ll return to our office to complete the last step! We’ll finish the treatment by placing a customized dental crown on the implant to protect and complete your smile. It’s designed to match your surrounding teeth for a seamless blend.
